Principal Geoscientist & Avalanche Professional

David Kallai, P.Geo

David is a Professional Geoscientist and Avalanche Professional with over a decade of experience in challenging terrain. He began his career as a forest technician, laying out roads and cutblocks in remote regions of coastal British Columbia. This foundational work provided deep, practical insight into natural resource operations. Since then, he has developed specialized expertise in engineering geology, landslides, terrain stability, geohazard assessment, avalanche risk management, and GIS mapping—serving clients across forestry, mining, and energy sectors.

During the winter months, David supports operational safety for Newmont, providing avalanche forecasting, risk management, and explosive control services as part of the Mountain Safety Team.

He also contributes to industry standards and best practices through his roles with the Natural Resources and Natural Hazards Advisory Group at Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and the Ethics and Standards Committee of the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA).
